Blake Wheeler started his journey at the Breck School in Minnesota where he scored a state-high of 45 goals and 55 assists in 2003-04 during his junior year. He led the team to a Class A State Hockey Championship and scored a hat trick in the final game. In the 2005-06 season, Blake attended the University of Minnesota where he scored 23 points in 39 games with the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
In the early 2007-08 season, Wheeler became the alternate captain of the Golden Gophers and recorded 35 points in 44 games. After his drafted to the Phoenix Coyotes, he couldn’t come to a contract agreement and elected to become a free agent despite a maximum entry-level contract offer from the club. In July 2008, Blake Wheeler signed an entry-level contract with the Boston Bruins.
